What Are the Core Factors Affecting the Output Capacity of a Hookah Charcoal Maker?

Hydraulic Shisha Charcoal Making Maker

When you are planning to start a shisha charcoal business, the most important question on your mind is probably: “How much charcoal can I actually make in one hour?

It is easy to look at a machine and guess, but the real hourly output depends on a few specific rules. Whether you are aiming for 300 kg per hour or planning a massive automated factory line, understanding these four simple factors will help you choose the right equipment and hit your production goals.

Factor 1: The “Speed vs. Size” of the Machine (Mechanical vs. Hydraulic)

The biggest factor that decides your output is the type of transmission running your machine. It usually comes down to a choice between fast punching or a giant mold.

  • The Fast Puncher (Mechanical Press): A 25-ton mechanical machine works like a rapid stamper. It moves very quickly, punching down 20 to 22 times every single minute. Because it moves so fast, the mold is smaller. If you are making 25mm square cubes, it punches out 15 pieces each time. This steady, high-speed rhythm gives you a reliable output of about 300 kg per hour.
  • The Giant Squeeze (Hydraulic & Automatic Presses): A 100-ton hydraulic press or our heavy-duty automatic machine moves much slower—only 3 to 4 times a minute. But don’t let the slow speed fool you! Because the pressure is so high, the machine can hold a massive mold. Instead of 15 pieces, one slow punch from the automatic machine can press up to 90 pieces (if you are making 2cm squares) all at once!

If you want steady, standard output, the mechanical press is great. If you want massive bulk production per cycle, you need the heavy-duty hookah charcoal briquette machine.

Factor 2: The Shape and Size of Your Charcoal

This is simple math. The smaller the charcoal piece, the more pieces you can fit into a single mold.

Let’s look at the data from our 80-100 ton automatic machine:

  • If you make small 2cm square blocks, the machine presses 90 pieces per mold.
  • If you make slightly larger 2.5cm square blocks, the mold can only fit 80 pieces.
  • If you switch to big 4cm round pieces, the number drops to 42 pieces per mold.

So, when calculating your daily output, always start by deciding exactly what shape and size your buyers want. Smaller cubes will always show a higher “pieces-per-minute” number than thick, wide round pucks.

Factor 3: The Demolding Method (How the Charcoal Pops Out)

“Demolding” is just the technical word for how the machine pushes the finished charcoal out of the metal mold.

On smaller or older machines, the charcoal is often pushed upward. But if you want maximum efficiency for a big factory, you should look at the downward demolding design found on our fully automatic machines.

Why does downward demolding matter? It allows the finished charcoal to drop smoothly and continuously onto the conveyor belt without the machine having to pause or reset its position as much. Saving just one second per cycle adds up to thousands of extra charcoal pieces at the end of your workday.

Factor 4: Your Raw Material Mix (The “Smoothness” Factor)

You can have the fastest shisha charcoal press machine in the world, but if your charcoal powder is mixed poorly, your output will drop to zero because the machine will jam.

To keep the machine running at top speed, your mixture must flow smoothly like wet sand through the hopper (the feeding funnel):

  • Powder Size: Your pure charcoal powder must be crushed to a size of less than 3mm. If there are big chunks, they will block the feeding port.
  • Moisture is Key: You must mix the powder with a binder (like 3-5% CMC) and exactly 20-25% water.
  • The Hopper Trick: If your mixture is too dry, it won’t drop into the mold easily. If you ever notice the hopper struggling to feed the powder, the fix is simple: add a little bit of water and run the machine a few times to dilute the mix.

Keeping your recipe perfect is the secret to never having to stop the machine. You can read more about mixing the perfect batch in our shisha charcoal manufacturing process guide.
